Map Controls – Customize How Users Interact with Your Map

The Map Controls section in WP Maps allows you to fine-tune the interactive behavior of your store or product locator map.

These settings give you control over how users can navigate, zoom, rotate, and interact with your map, creating a tailored experience that suits both mobile and desktop users.

Whether you want to keep things simple and static or allow dynamic exploration, these toggles let you strike the perfect balance between user freedom and interface control.

What These Options Do #

Here’s a breakdown of each toggle available under Map Controls:

1. Zoom Control #

Displays plus (+) and minus (–) buttons on the map for manual zooming.

Useful for users who prefer clicking over pinching or scrolling.

2. Rotate #

Allows the map to be rotated horizontally (bearing) and vertically (pitch).

This is especially useful in 3D or tilted map views, commonly supported in Mapbox maps.

3. Scale control #

Displays a visual scale bar on the map (usually in the corner), which adjusts dynamically as the zoom level changes.

It shows real-world distance (e.g., 1 km or 1 mile).

4. Scroll Wheel Zoom #

Let users zoom in and out using the mouse scroll wheel.

Ideal for users familiar with map gestures, but can be disabled to prevent accidental zooming on scroll.

5. Street View Control #

Adds a Pegman (drag-and-drop) icon on Google Maps that allows users to enter Street View mode, where they can navigate streets in a panoramic 360° view.

6. Map Type Control #

Let users switch between different map types, such as roadmap, satellite, terrain, and hybrid (depending on the selected map provider).
