Mapbox maps offer a rich, 3D visualization experience that goes beyond traditional flat map displays.
WP Maps harnesses this power by allowing users to configure advanced view settings such as Bearing, Pitch, Min Pitch, and Max Pitch. These options give you control over the camera angle and rotation, features that can dramatically enhance the user experience.
Note: These advanced settings are exclusive to Mapbox maps and are not available when using Google Maps.
What These Options Do #
Each of these options controls how the map is visually oriented or tilted:
- Bearing: This controls the rotation angle of the map. Instead of north always being up, you can rotate the map to highlight certain directions or layouts—great for storytelling or guiding attention.
- Pitch: Defines the angle at which the camera tilts. A pitch of 0 is a flat, top-down view. Increasing the pitch adds a dynamic, angled 3D view that can make maps look more immersive.
- Minimum Pitch / Maximum Pitch: These options limit how much the user can tilt the map. For example, setting a Min Pitch of 0 and a Max Pitch of 60 will let users tilt the map up to 60 degrees for a pseudo-3D perspective, but never below flat view.

Use Cases and Benefits #
These options offer visual control that can significantly improve the aesthetics and functionality of your locator:
- Enhanced Engagement: 3D maps feel more interactive and can captivate users, especially on product or store locator landing pages.
- Branding Flexibility: Bearing control allows you to orient the map to match your brand’s layout or storytelling.
- Focus Attention: A tilted pitch with bearing can guide the user’s focus toward a specific region or store cluster.
